It’s
Monday yet again. How quickly the clock turns now days. Often Monday’s
get a bum wrap. GO ahead and mention that ‘Monday’ is fast approaching
on any given Sunday and be prepared to duck.
One
of the things that I’ve always found so interesting is that we choose
this day, (Monday), as the launching point for implementing the loftiest
of all our goals. Maybe that’s why it’s universally the weekday that is
loathed more than any other.
No way it can live up to all those, “over the top” expectations.
I see the scenario in my head. Heck, I’ve done this myself and more often than I care to admit. We sit around on Sunday, Fat – Dumb and Happy - as the saying goes, and wax eloquent about the things we’ll accomplish THEN!!!
“I’m going to start running again. Think I’ll do 5 miles tomorrow (Monday that is). I might as well fit in some weight training too while I’m at it, so I’ll do my run at the club so I can hit the weights right after. Of course I need to finish the taxes, so if I get to the gym early enough…5 AM should do it, I can polish off the cardio, the weights and be showered and ready to go by 7 . That way, I’ll beat the traffic, get to the office an hour before the rest of the gang and finish the taxes before the budget meeting at 9. Yeah, that’ll be GREAT! I’ll set the alarm for 4 and get to bed early.
Sound familiar? You know it does! But Monday comes, the alarm goes off and you throw it on the floor. You drag yourself out of bed just in time to grab a quick shower, snag a cup of Joe and screech into the office parking lot on two wheels, only to find that you’re 5 minutes late for the 9 AM meeting….and so it goes.
SO, we need REALLY GOOD reasons with tangible goals in tact, in order for us to get after it; not another ‘rag – tag’ wish list of unrealistic, over the top, Sunday night bull sessions with ourselves, with me?
Well I have a reason for setting your alarm and it just might matter enough to get you up and out of the house with your sneakers on. What could it be?
Well, did you know that February is American Heart Month? Well, you do now and unfortunately, most of us know someone who has had heart disease or stroke. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States; one in every three deaths is from heart disease and stroke, equal to 2,200 deaths per day. These conditions are also leading causes of disability preventing people from working and enjoying family activities.
I think this ought to be enough to motivate us to get our butts in gear don’t you?
I have much to say on this matter and yeah, you’ll be hearing from me about this, ALL MONTH LONG! WHY…what do you mean WHY? It’s the leading cause of death and disability in this country. Oh, I don’t know. It might just be me, but if I wasn’t working out, eating right or working hard to find ways to de-stress…this would get my attention.
SO for now, I’m just going to ask you to think about it, that’s all. What will it take before we get motivated to care for this body that takes such good care of us?
I’ll be back to nag you a little more very soon. For now, just think on that and get your sneakers, gym memberships and alarm clocks ready.
My husband tells me that when I get something on my mind, I’m like a dog with a bone until I get my way.
OH NOOOO!!! I feel the need to apologize in advance, as this feels , smells and tastes an awful lot like a good bone to pick!
So, Happy Monday Everyone and who knows, by this time next week, you just might be at the gym and living large…..never can tell what might MOTIVATE you now do ya?
Power On ya’ll - from one who realizes that "I just may be your worst night mare": A Fitness professional that not only blogs, but who practices what they preach and who also actually, deeply CARES.
But….I’m in your corner, on your side and I’m pulling for you.
Until next time,
Candace
