THURSDAY’S DISH’IN NUTRITION - “ What’s For Breakfast”?

So you’ve heard it a thousand times. Eat a good breakfast and start your day off right! You’ve also heard, eat a nutritious breakfast to help keep the pounds down too, haven’t you?

Yeah, ok - but why? Well, I hear you and I’m going to explain it in a nut shell. There are several reasons actually, but for today, let’s focus on just one aspect of why eating breakfast will help us ward off extra weight, without even discussing study after study that I could list here, that would show this to be not only theory but absolute TRUTH. TODAY, short and sweet…with one example, I’ll help you see the main reason why this is so. When you wake you’re body is actually in a bit of a fasting mode. If you skip breakfast and don’t fuel your body upon waking, you stand less of a chance of sticking to a balanced plan of nutrition. When this happens, you’re more likely to add to the statistics of the Americans who are overweight. Why, because you’re simply going to get OVER HUNGRY, the single most aggressive contributing factor to weight gain. Once you find yourself in the chasm of the undernourished and under fed, trust me, over eating is going to come knocking at your door and you don’t have a deadbolt! So, if you had dinner at 7 PM and didn’t eat again until 7 AM the next morning, that’s called a fasting mode. Translation, you just went 12 hours without food. Good thing you chose to fuel your metabolism and ate breakfast. But let’s say you didn’t. So, opposite scenario; you woke up at 7 AM, grabbed a cup of java and hit the road. You got busy like most hysterically, hyper habitants of the Western Hemisphere and forgot to eat until you hit the front door around 4 in the PM. You open the pantry and grab a box or bag of whatever you can reach first. At this point, a full 21 hours since fueling your body and you are DONE FOR. This may sound extreme, but as a nutrition specialist, this is what I hear every day. Where do you think I came up with it! I’m as serious as a heart attack.

Putting it in these terms helps to bring the point home, doesn’t it? Fuel your body first thing upon waking and graze on throughout the day and you’ll find yourself consuming less calories at night! Other way around, and you may just find yourself looking up my number.

Until tomorrow,

What’s on the menu for breakfast?
