THURSDAY'S DISH'IN NUTRITION... "TO INDULDGE OR NOT TO INDULDGE"?

THE HOLIDAYS ARE HERE! EGG NOG, FIGGY PUDDING and FRUIT CAKE - OH MY!

SO, to indulge or not to indulge, that is the question. I say, let yourself enjoy a little holiday cheer in the form of a sweet treat here and there. But have a plan to do so. What I do and suggest you do as well, is make something and bring it to your hostess. She’ll love you for it. This way, you’ll be aware of, and KNOW the calorie count of 'your' plate of goodies, and can plan your ‘eating day’ accordingly;so as to include one of the fabulous treats you've supplied. Tomorrow is Friday's Festive Fare.I'll be posting a Recipe that you can copy and have standing  by. It's a somewhat healthier version of  traditional, " Rocky Road Brownies". They're perfect for just a time as this.  Coming in at a reasonable 190 calories for A SINGLE SERVING SIZE (one brownie), you can simply skip one of the usual 'two' healthy snacks from your regular eating plan and you’ll be no worse for the wear. In my opinion, you should allow for a party here and there where you take this approach. When you know you don’t have to completely refrain from ever indulging (while others do), you’ll be less likely to binge when the going gets tough. Just make it a part of your caloric intake for that ONE day. EXACTLY HOW DOES THAT WORK AGAIN YOU ASK? As I mentioned earlier, I have most of my clients partake of two healthy, low calorie snacks each day - in addition to a healthy Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner . If you know you have a party coming up, simply choose to have only one of your snacks that day, (I suggest a 200 calorie limit for these anyway…. an apple and a string cheese is one possible example at approximately 160 calories). Add one of these “healthier made brownies” for a comparable calorie exchange and VIOLA, you’ve got the best of both worlds. Sticking to your eating plan and indulging in a sweet treat as well.

SO, tomorrow you'll find your recipe for The perfect Hostess gift that will win you points for good guest behavior and also keep you on the straight and narrow as well. Who knew a Rocky Road Brownie could do so much good?

ROCKY ROAD BROWNIES, WHO KNEW....LOL!

Until Tomorrow,
Candace
