WEDNESDAY WELLNESSS...(A Four Part Series) ,"My Ten Minute Miracle Stress Reduction Cure"

Just mention the word and our blood pressure rises and our hearts begin to beat at a faster tempo! A Ten Minute Cure? Seriously? For what could arguably be the most aggressive precursor to just about every disease known to man? Well, while that may be a bit of an exaggeration, it's also not too far of a stretch either. There are many kinds of stress.

Eustress - is a type of stress that is fun and exciting, and keeps us vital . This could be learning to rock climb, buying a house or having a baby.

Yes, all good things but stress effects the body none the less.

Acute Stress- a very short-term type of stress that is either positive or more disturbing (what we normally think of when we think of ‘stress'); this is the type of stress we most often encounter in day-to-day life. Anywhere from deciding to go back to college to get your masters degree to dealing with the guy who keeps giving you the finger because he cuts you off.

Episodic Acute Stress- this is when acute stress seems to just be running amuck, leaving you feeling as though your daily life is nothing but a jumbled mess of unbridled chaos. Left unchecked this type of stress can lead to full blown....

Chronic Stress- the type of stress that seems never-ending and inescapable, like the stress of a chronic illness or serious financial hardship where you see no answer in sight.
(this type of stress can lead to total burnout , anxiety attacks or worse).

Anyway you look at it. Stress pretty much sucks!

The effects on the body are widespread and yet we still only know in part, the
role that stress may truly play in the development of disease, both emotionally and in the human body itself. The short list that we do know, includes everything from chronic headaches to what research is now showing to be a real connection between the effects of stress and many kinds of cancer.
Below is a list..(In short), of what we know for sure that Chronic Stress can cause;

hair loss

heart disease

obsessive-compulsive or anxiety disorder

sexual dysfunction

tooth and gum disease

cancer (possibly)

In fact, statistics tell us that as many as 90% of all doctor’s visits are for symptoms that are at least partially related to STRESS! OUCH!

As a Nutrition Specialist, I can tell you for a fact, that most every single solitary nutrition client that I've dealt with, (especially over the last 5 years) have come right out and TOLD ME they don't eat because they're hungry , THEY EAT AND OVER EAT, BECAUSE THEY FEEL STRESSED~ SO, what's a person to do?
Well, there are many techniques for reducing stress. In this four part series, I will suggest, focus on, and help teach you to master...only one. A sure fire way to reduce the feelings of anxiety, depression and the weight gain often due to this aggressive intruder . This technique has helped me and so many others, including my own private clients. What is it?
Journaling! HEY...I think I heard that! You know, it just floors me that no matter whom I suggest this discipline to, be it a firefighter or a Home Maker, across the board, the reactions are the same. They slump back in their chairs, look completely disgusted and usually say...."You have got to be kidding me, You have to give me another assignment. I really, REALLY don't want to do that Candace"!

Well, I have to say it. How's just letting your stress take over your life been working for ya so far? Thank you. Not well at all. I mean we could just keep doing the same things over and over again just hoping for different results but I think just about everyone now knows that as the definition of INSANITY!
And it feels kinda like that right now doesn't it? INSANE! Why not take the advice from a woman who at one time was close to being agoraphobic and now feels the world is her oyster and laughs in the face of much adversity? I would! Of course, that woman is ME. This has helped to save my quality of life- point blank. This and many other techniques. BUT THIS ONE, it's one of the best.
So, over the next three weeks I am going to challenge you to try something new. Something that takes you out of your comfort zone. Something that takes little effort and MUCH EFFORT at the same time. This will work, if you work it. I am talking ten minutes out of your HECTIC SCHEDULES, to sit, be still with a pad and pen in hand and thankfully reflect on your life. OH NO! THIS can literally save your life, depending on how seriously you take this challenge. By saving your life, I am referring to bringing you back to the PRESENT. Teaching you to settle yourself. Helping you to avoid self sabotage like binge eating and focusing on the many blessings so easy to overlook in our hurried, hectic stressful lives. SO, chew on that and for now, so as not to "STRESS YOU OUT", I have a very easy homework assignment and you have a full week, till next Wednesday to accomplish it.

Here it is! GO BUY A JOURNAL~ you may have many that you started and stopped. DO NOT USE ONE OF THOSE! This is a new beginning and I want everything about it to be new and exciting.

THEN, scope out YOUR special space. Be looking for a special place where you can be alone for 15, 20 minutes max.
That's all ...and let me know what you think. Yell on the comment pages. I can take it. OR maybe you secretly like this idea...feel free to share that too.
I want you 'WANTING' to write. For now, just get your journal (and make it nice please. You need not spend much money. Target has beautiful journals to choose from must be a journal that has something about it that draws you to it) and FIND YOUR PLACE.

That's all for now,

Until tomorrow,

Power On.....
